Good afternoon

Any student who is retaking a chemistry course in which they earned a grade of D or F and are getting the “prerequisite and test score error” when attempting to register for the next chemistry course in their sequence must submit the prerequisite override request form. Per the request of the Chemistry Department, please do not set P1 overrides for these students. In addition, please tell your student to clearly explain the reason they’re requesting the override, so the Department knows to approve the request with a P1 and not Q1.

Thank you,

Heather Shattuck

Good afternoon Professor Dougherty,

Thank you for the email. If it would help the Department, academic advisors can set the temporary override (P1) to allow students in this situation to register for spring courses while the Registrar’s Office is working on fixing this issue. If a student fails a prerequisite course again this fall, they would be dropped from the spring course for which it’s a prerequisite sometime in December or early January (depending on when the Registrar’s Office runs the prereq drop script).

Alternatively, if you would prefer these students to submit prerequisite override request forms as requested in your email, we will share that information with our advising units and the entire advising community because there are many majors that require chemistry courses, and there are students taking chemistry courses as prerequisites for admissions to health professions regardless of major.

Thank you,

Heather

All,

It has come to my attention that students that have failed a class but are currently retaking it are not being allowed to register for the next course. As such you can only imagine the chaos that has ensued. If you have a student reach out to you that has this issue, please have them fill out a prerequisite override form. Ask them to be clear with their explanation to avoid any confusion on our part. Do not have them call the department office, or the UGARs.
