Dear Advising Community,

As you guys might know, I’m the advisor to a student organization.  Through them, I’ve been able to unofficially advise other groups, as well.  Some of the ideas that I’ve given out that just sort of make sense to me have been received as relatively novel.  It was suggested to me enough times that I compile such advice in a format that makes it easier for me to disseminate.  Thus, I wrote a book!  (Well, it’s short for a book but long for a booklet, so perhaps for vanity reasons, I’m siding with “book”.  J)

Thus, it’s targeted at student leaders, but the principles in it can benefit any student or really anyone who wants a fresh approach to organizing and prioritizing.  Since it takes principles lifted from my experience as a business major and then later as a philosophy major and applies them in the faraway land of student leadership, they should not become immediately irrelevant when applied to a non-collegiate context.  But I send it to you so that you can offer the e-copy to any student leaders you might advise. 

The e-book is (self-)published under the CC-BY arrangement of Creative Commons, meaning it can be shared, adapted, and so forth without author permission.  The only stipulation is that you attribute the original work to the original author. 

While the e-book is free, if your e-reader doesn’t do PDF, or if you find your laptop hard to curl up with, there is a print version available for $5 in my office (MS 4.01.78A).  Why do that?  Well, physical books make much better gifts (hint hint for any procrastinators), they’re able to be loaned out, they can be autographed, and because it’s a great way to use any recent raises that might have been announced.  J
