Hi Advisors,

As we get ready to welcome our freshmen students tomorrow at the first Orientation session of the year, I wanted to send you some information and resources regarding the UHPO breakout sessions.

First of all, thank you to all the advisors who came to our Orientation Update training. We hope you found the information valuable. Your feedback has helped us to create some good materials for students.

Second, as a reminder, we will be giving students a “recommended” pre-health professions schedule at our breakout sessions. We will also give them the opportunity to take a picture of the “recommended” schedule flyers at our sessions, if they choose not to take a paper copy. Plus, the flyers is posted on the utsa.edu/advise/orientation site (for your and their information). Thanks to Jimmy for helping us get this updated.

Third, during our sessions, we emphasize that students must meet with their primary advisor on Wednesday and that missing their appointment time to meet with us is not an option. However, we are having walk-ins on Wednesday. We are asking that you refer students to our walk-in times (9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.). Not every student needs to check in with us during orientation. We definitely would like to see the following students:

-Students interested in the four-year special programs (JAMP or DEAP)

-Students who are having serious trouble completing a schedule or can’t follow the “recommended” schedule for some reason.

-Students in other special circumstances (i.e., associate’s degree completers, etc.) with whom you are unable to figure out a schedule for their health profession.

***All other students should come see us after the Census Date to get more information on their individual health profession.

Finally, I have attached the following to this e-mail, for your information:

1. PowerPoint for our Medical/Dental/Vet, etc. room for our breakout sessions

2. PowerPoint for our Nursing/Respiratory Care/ Dental Hygiene room for our breakout sessions

3. A flyer promoting our breakout sessions (for you to use during pre-advising, if you wish).
