HONORS COLLEGE COMMUNIQUE: February 2021
Hello from the Honors College! In partnership with Academic Advising, we are sending a monthly
Honors College Communique on the Advising listserv, in which we will send short updates about:
Honors Opportunities for All Students:
Study Abroad Scholarship Workshop (February 26)
The Honors College has partnered with Education Abroad to host a study abroad scholarship workshop. The event will highlight the Gilman Scholarship, which helps thousands of Pell Grant-receiving students
each year with awards of up to $5,000. There are no GPA requirements, no letter of recommendations, and students can use awards on future study abroad programs up to 1 year in advance, in virtual classes taught by foreign universities, or in virtual abroad
internships for academic credit. Students can RSVP at https://rowdylink.utsa.edu/event/6757691.
If they cannot attend but would like application advice, students can contact Andrew Chapman at
Andrew.Chapman2@utsa.edu to apply ahead of the March 9th deadline.
Highlighted Benefit for Honors College Members: Development Funding
Four times a year, the Honors College reviews applications to award Development Fund scholarships. These awards up to $750 help students fund professional development opportunities and experiential
learning activities that may also count toward Honors College Requirements. Examples include:
Here is one great example of how a student used a development award. Senior Public Health major Natalie Malluru was awarded funding to develop a vaccination tracker app, which was featured in
UTSA Today.
Current students can also join the Honors College!
Do you know a current UTSA student with a 3.5 GPA or above (under 45 cumulative hours) that might be interested in joining the Honors College? Benefits of joining the
Honors
College include small interdisciplinary courses and a tight-knit community across all UTSA colleges, Honors-specific scholarships, access funds to pursue experiential
learning opportunities, and professional coaching. Students eligible to join the Honors College (3.5 higher GPA and less than 45 cumulative hours) will be notified in May once grades are posted.
