Howdy,
Barbara Smith recently reached out to the Academic Advising Council (AAC) asking us to discuss developing an all-advising probation program for all of UTSA Advising. Instead of AAC members taking sole charge of this task, we thought it
would be best to extend an invitation to participate to those who have worked closely with their center’s current/previous programs or to any advisor who may be interested in helping with this task. We realize this is a busy time for all of us, but the commitment
will likely only last until June 1st (see timeline below).
Specifically, the committee will be focusing on topics such as:
·
Developing recommendations for a universal model for working with probationary students regardless of center/advisor
o
Best practices
o
Current UTSA practices
o
Possible different interventions for students along a sliding scale (likely GPA based)
o
Minimum expectations of advisors when working with probationary students
·
Communication/Outreach strategy: EARN, holds, emails, etc.
·
Metrics for future assessment of the program’s impact on student success/retention
·
Timeline for training & implementation
The current proposed timeline is:
June 1st – Recommendations due
Summer/Fall 2014 – Administrative review and approval
Fall 2014 – Advisor training regarding new model
Spring 2015 – Implementation
Please let me know of your interest in participating by 5:00 pm Friday April 18th. I will be contacting those interested early next week to set up the first meeting time.
Thank you,
Matt D. Keneson
