Hello,

Please promote the two new Data Science courses below.  They might be great upper division free electives for incoming transfer students for any major.

Thanks for sharing with your students.

Subject: Two new data science courses have been scheduled for Spring 2021

Hi Sylvia and Karen,

Two new DS courses, DS 4003 Intro to Data Science and DS4013 Programming for Data Science, have been recently added to the course inventory. We have also scheduled for those two courses to be offered in Spring 2021. They are online asynchronous courses and are designed for students for all majors (in particularly for transfer students) without prior knowledge in computer programming or higher math. The courses will provide an opportunity in educating and preparing UTSA students for data science skills and expertise without changing their intended majors and to increase their participation in data science-related fields through cross-campus collaborations. Those two courses will be required courses of data science certificate pending approval. Below please find the course description for the two courses. Please feel free to share it with your advisors to help promote the two courses.

DS 4003 An introduction to foundational data science knowledge and life cycle.  Focus areas on data visualization, data curation, ethics, and tools available for analysis will be covered.

DS 4013 An introduction to data-driven programming emphasizing problem solving and critical thinking. Topics will focus on foundational computer programming concepts and skills

Best,

Jianwei
