Hello all,
If you are interested in a handy spreadsheet that calculates the electives for you, please check out the attached sheet. It calculates the elective hours needed for that student
at that point in time. You do not have to use it, it’s only if you want to. I tested it under different scenarios and I believe I have it working properly, however, if you notice that it doesn’t work in the case of a particular situation, please let me know.
I know the instructions are very wordy, but I was trying to be detailed and comprehensive
and are only needed in case you aren’t sure what to enter in a particular place. Example below.
1.
I’ve added a button that clears that resets the spreadsheet with just a push. In order to this, you will need to enable the macros.
2.
Enter in the minimum number of hours the student still needs to reach 120 hours.
3.
Add up the hours needed for core, major, minor and/or concentration and enter that number. (Total number of required hours.)
4.
This is the total number of free electives needed, auto calculating hours to 120 minus hours required. If they are at 120 hours or their hours required for core/major
exceeds the hours needed to reach 120, the number will be zero.
5.
Enter in the minimum number of hours needed to reach 39 upper-division hours.
6.
Add up the total number of upper-division hours the student still needs (anything in red that is not in progress) and enter that number.
7.
This is the total number of upper-division free electives needed, auto calculating hours to 39 UD minus required UD. If they are at 39 UD or their hours required for major
exceeds the hours needed to reach 39 UD, the number will be zero.
8.
This is the number of free electives that can be lower- or upper-division. This number is automatically calculated by taking number of free elective hours needed to reach
120 and subtracting the upper-division free electives needed. If all the required free electives need to be upper-division, this number will be zero.

To reset the data, click on the Reset button.
