Hello All,
Many areas at UTSA receive calls/emails from students that recently graduated who are worried because their Degree Works shows their major as “undeclared” and no longer shows they are 100% complete. These changes occur when students are
changed to non-degree seeking after being awarded their degree. To try and prevent these questions, we have made some changes to the information that displays to non-degree seeking students in Degree Works.
Summary of changes:
- Removed the “normal” information normally shown to students, such as residency policies and the core block, that don’t apply to a student not pursuing a degree
- Changed the block’s title from “Degree Undeclared” to “Non-degree Seeking Student”
- Added 2 items that will show for any non-degree seeking student:
- (1) Information on how to change to degree-seeking depending on if they are active/inactive and if they were ever admitted as degree-seeking previously.
- (2) A note on how to view graduate-level degree requirements in Degree Works if they have been admitted to a graduate program.
- Students with a post-bacc (PB) classification will also see a note informing them that students awarded a degree are changed to non-degree seeking status and that they should check
their transcript to verify if a degree has been awarded previously.
- In the future, we may be able to have the note confirm if a degree has been awarded, but the language will be generic for now.
- Students will show 100% complete in the Requirements dial (since there are no requirements), but they will have “NaN%” in the Credits dial as no hours are required for a non-degree
seeking student. This will still hopefully be an improvement since students would previously show as 95& complete.
A screenshot of the new block can be seen below. You can also view examples in Degree Works for @01919785/@00521097 (examples of PB classification) and @00100433/@01716599 (examples of non-PB classification).
Thank you to those that provided feedback on these changes, and please let us know if you run into any issues!
