Honors News:   

Honors has a new staff member – welcome, Nicholas “Nick” DeGraw! Nick joined Honors this March as the new Program Manager for Recruitment & Retention. This new position will oversee student life events for all Honors students, develop a robust calendar of events for the Honors Residential College in Guadalupe Hall, collaborate with Victoria for on-campus recruitment events, and supervise the graduate assistant, the events student employee team, and the Honors influencers student group.

This is the place that helps students find money for undergraduate research, study abroad, and graduate school! Highlighted Benefit for Honors College Members:      

Honors courses! Honors students will register on April 18. Honors classes can be found in the Honors College but also in almost every other college! Most Honors courses fulfill either university core requirements, major requirements or electives. All fulfill Honors requirements. For a complete listing of Honors Fall 2022 courses, please see our Courses page. Here are some examples for Fall 2022 Honors courses:

·         CSH 1213.03H: Korean Pop Culture: Korean Culture through Korean Films (fulfills Language, Philosophy & Culture Core and an Honors lower division requirement)

·         CE 4953.002: Collaborative Web Mapping for Social and Environmental Issues (fulfills an Honors Experience requirement)

·         HON 3153.001: Orature: Performing Literature Out Loud (fulfills English elective and an Honors Experience requirement)

     

Student Highlight:  Forough Askarirad, Senior, major in Psychology in the College of Health, Community and Policy, with a minor in Global Affairs.

 

·         First-gen college student and an immigrant

·         Terry Scholar

·         Selected to the Fulbright Student Program for 2022, to travel to Bulgaria following graduation to participate in the English Teaching Assistant Program

·         Interned with Capital Area Immigrants' Rights (CAIR) Coalition while in DC (2022)

·         Worked as an intern with the City of San Antonio's Immigration Liaison Office for two summers; in 2019 and 2021

·         Founder of the annual Mental Health Day at UTSA events, and the Mental Health Team student organization

·         Studied Abroad in Urbino Italy through the Gilman Scholarship

·         ESL Teacher

·         Future plans: after completing my year abroad as an ETA in Bulgaria, Forough plans to attend law school and pursue a career as an immigration attorney and advocate.
