Career Labs, Drop-Ins, and Appointments are offered in-person and virtually. Please encourage students to take advantage of these engaging career development opportunities. Career Exploration and Changing Majors Lab | Thursday, January 23rd | 11am-12pm (Hybrid)

In this lab, students will be able to learn strategies on how to explore their options for their career and major.

Students can register for this lab within Handshake

15-minute sessions with Career Consultants that occur every Monday and Tuesday, in-person and virtually, from 11am-2pm

Career Labs

In-person and virtual (hybrid) hands-on career development that occurs every Wednesday from 1-2pm & 3-4pm and every Thursday from 11am-12pm & 1-2pm

• Wednesdays - Resume, CV, and Cover Letter Writing

• Thursdays - Internship and Job Search Techniques

• Appointments

In-depth individualized appointments with a career consultant for Career Exploration, Resume & Cover Letter Tailoring, and Interview Tips & Practice

• Students can schedule one-on-one appointments Monday through Friday through Handshake

• A resume/cover letter draft and an internship/job description are required for Resume Appointments

• What can the Career Center assist students with?
  The career center offers services and events on topics that include the following:

• Resume, CV, and Cover Letter review, tailoring strategies, and resources

• Job and Internship search strategies and tools

• Career Exploration strategies and resources

• Please note, that the Career Center does NOT do job or internship placement 

What should I refer students to?

At this moment in time, a great catch all page to refer students to is our "Make an Appointment" area on our website which you can find here. This site includes resources such as Career Development checklists and worksheets as well as information on our Career Labs, Drop-Ins, and Appointments.

What is a Career Lab?

The Career Lab powered by GM Financial was established in the Spring of 2024 and is located within the Career Center Office (Student Union 2.02.04). This is a space where UTSA students discover, pursue and achieve their unique career goals. Some services that occur in the lab include career counseling, mock interviews, career workshops, resume workshops and professional networking events. Career Labs are real-time hands-on workshops that can occur in-person, virtually, or hybrid to assist with meeting students' needs.

What are some tech tools I can refer students to?

Some of the most utilized tools for students are the following: 

• Handshake - Students can register for events; apply for internships and jobs; and make an appointment with a career consultant 

• VMock - This is an AI tool that can provide immediate feedback for resumes, a LinkedIn profile, and a student's elevator pitch (only available for current students)

• Career Explorer - This assessment normally takes 30 mins or less to complete and may help students learn about their interests, values, and potential career/degree options

• Roadrunner Network -This is a great networking tool that students and alumni can utilize especially when exploring potential career options

• Career Ready Maps - The Career Ready Maps are a go-to guide to help students navigate career-related resources/events to complement academic studies and level up their skills for life after graduation. Note: These were previously known as the Experiential Learning Maps
