Everyone – I think this is a wonderful idea, and so glad that Tammy will be the lead here.  Tammy working closely with Barbara I believe will help with the academic connection that Larry stated below.

Subject: FW: Message to the Advising Community

The UTSA Advising Community,

As you are all aware, over the last two years the university has designed and implemented a new structure for academic advising at UTSA.  Thanks to the hard work of each of you, the modified structure appears to be functioning well.  I especially wish to thank Barbara Smith for providing exceptional leadership in managing the conversion to the new advising structure.

Although the new system of advising seems to be working well, we are cognizant that we constantly need to make adjustments to help the new structure work even better.  We feel that the presence of a faculty member closely involved in the direct management of the advising system is needed to assist with challenges we face in collaborating with academic departments and the colleges in implementing academic policies and procedures, including graduation requirements. To that end, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Tammy Wyatt has agreed to assume an assignment to be involved in the management of academic advising at UTSA.

Beginning September 1, 2015, Barbara Smith, Executive Director of Advising, will begin to report to Dr. Tammy Wyatt, Associate Dean, University College.  I am confident that the team of Ms. Smith and Dr. Wyatt will continue to provide exceptional leadership in managing the advising team, working with the departments and colleges, and overseeing advising support including technology support.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Wyatt to this new leadership role in academic advising. As she takes on this new responsibility, Dr. Wyatt will continue her supervisory role with the First-Year Experience Initiative.
