The Academy for Teacher Excellence is announcing the Spring 2016 Student Success Transition Series — eight workshops, 90-minutes each, designed to arm students with the knowledge and skills to be successful in their transition to UTSA.  Targeting primarily incoming freshmen and community college transfer students, but open to ANY student.  Please pass the information along to any student you think might be interested.  All sessions are FREE!

Transitioning & You” – We will address the question of a Community College “stigma,” explore UTSA lingo and issues connected to being a new University student, and practical ideas on creating balance and structure for “self.”

Planning & Organizing Effectively” – Worried about how you are going to get through all of your courses this semester?  Personal organization tips and proper planning will make you more successful, and we’ll recommend a few student-tested organizer apps for your mobile device, too.

Note Taking & Time Management” – Want to know how to take better notes?  Always running out of time on assignments?  Time management & note taking are essential study skills for college success, this seminar will demonstrate why and how to do it, and showcase some practical apps for smart phones and tablets.

Financial Aid: Options & Impact” – Explore alternate funding sources, how to run an effective online scholarship search, the student debt crisis, and a sample personal statement.

Procrastination & Test Anxiety” – Tips and suggestions on managing test anxiety, addressing procrastination, planning and organizing “self,” and how to remain calm while taking a test.

Building Your Support Network” – Academic norms and university etiquette, how to talk to your professor, how to find a mentor, and how to ask for help from family, peers, and TA’s.

Know Your Student Rights” – Learn how to be your own advocate, explore your rights under Title IX, FERPA, DACA and the Disabilities Act.  Learn about UTSA services for student veterans, student parents, and disabled students (ie; 504).

Library Research Workshop and Library Resources Tour” – Conducted by the UTSA Student Engagement Librarian, learn how to use the library’s resources effectively and efficiently to facilitate your research.
