We had sent out an announcement about the Study Abroad event earlier today to our 154 SSS Students. We’re excited about the opportunity you are providing them.
Since Study Abroad is a significant tool in raising graduation rates and the amount of low income/first generation students/ and students with a disability (our
population of students at SSS) are very underrepresented it is my goal to try to change that here at UTSA.
I would love to create a special forum for First Gen students particularly and would love to converse with you about that! Let’s get those numbers to increase
even more… Give me a call and let’s talk!

Subject: [Advising] FW: UTSA Education Abroad Services: greetings and campus study abroad fair
Dear Academic Advisors,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Brandon Lanners and I have recently assumed the direction of Education Abroad Services for UTSA. It is
an honor to fulfill this role and to work with all of you. Indeed, UTSA’s international footprint is quickly growing with 526 students sent abroad in 2015-16, which is a 25% increase from 421 students in 2014-15.
I have spent the last 17 years at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign so I am quite comfortable in a large, public, and complex institution.
The majority of those years was directly focused on supporting academic advisors and improving how study abroad impacted their
daily
responsibilities. I appreciate sincerely the work you do for our students and campus, and I am dedicated to learning about your goals and challenges and supporting you in your work.
I would also like to ask for your support in promoting study abroad at UTSA. Tomorrow (9/8)
is our fall Study Abroad Fair, and I would appreciate your help in
forwarding the below message and flier to your advisees.
Please be in touch if you have any comments or questions, and I look forward to
working with you.
Take care,
Brandon
