Low earns Conference USA Spirit of Service Award on Wednesday

Megan Low was one of 16 student-athletes that received the Spring 2014 Conference USA Spirit of Service Award, the league office announced on Wednesday. Low, who has a 3.55 GPA in kinesiology, put together the best season of her career while excelling in the classroom and lending a helping hand in the San Antonio community.

COU professor receives Outstanding Alumnus Award

Dr. Heather Trepal, associate professor in the College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Counseling, was awarded the 2014 Dr. Dwight L. Arnold Outstanding Alumnus Award from Kent State University in Ohio. The annual award recognizes outstanding alumni from Kent State University’s Counseling and Human Development Services program.

KHN faculty receive first place for research poster

Two faculty members from the College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition were awarded first place for their research poster in the Professional Research Poster category at the American College Health Association’s (ACHA) Annual Meeting in May.

Show Me the Possibilities

Getting more school students interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) fields is increasingly important, and engaging Hispanic students in those fields can be a challenge. It helps for those students to have Hispanic teachers who can serve as role models.

Report finds low graduation rates, but high federal aid

(NPR-MARKETPLACE) A new report from the Education Trust says over $15 billion dollars a year in federal aid goes to colleges where most of the students don't graduate. Plus, many of the students -- three out of ten -- have so much debt they can't repay it. Not so suprising: most of the schools on the list are for-profit institutions.

(INSIDE HIGHER ED) Americans are donating more money to higher education than they were before the recession, a comprehensive report on charitable giving suggests.
The report, which the Giving USA Foundation released Tuesday, indicates that Americans donated a record $52.07 billion to education in 2013. Adjusted for inflation, this figure marks a 7.4 percent increase over 2012.
