Congratulations, Claudia!!! A truly amazing and prestigious award!! Dale gas!
***But in celebrating one of our own, let’s please not erase our Latina/o/x history:
· COEHD has indeed had a Post-doc winner in the past: Dr. Armando Trujillo (hired at UTSA in BBL in 1993 and awarded in 1995)
· UTSA has indeed had a female Post-doc winner in the past: Dr. Rhonda Gonzales (hired at UTSA in History in 2004 and awarded in 2006)
This makes me think that UTSA should have a permanent webpage dedicated to prestigious awardees such as these.

Subject: [Coehd] Congratulation to Dr. Claudia Garcia-Louis awarded the Ford Foundation 2020 Post-Doctoral Fellowship
Dear Colleagues,
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Claudia Garcia-Louis on being awarded the Ford Foundation 2020 Post-Doctoral Fellowship! Dr. Garcia-Louis notified Dr. Aleman and me of this amazing external recognition of her excellence and I want to share it broadly. Not only is this award highly prestigious and competitive, but in reviewing the Ford Foundation directory, Dr. Garcia-Louis is only the second UTSA faculty member, and first female , and first COEHD faculty member to receive the Ford Post-Doctoral Fellowship. To underscore the competitive nature of this honor, from 1980-2017 only 2% of these awards went to the field of education. This is a wonderful honor and recognition.
Dr. Garcia-Louis was awarded the fellowship for her research project, “ A Chicana Feminist Approach to Disaggregating Hispanic Ethnicity in Higher Education: An Analysis on Latina/o/x Students Sense of Belonging”. This work will assess “Latina/o/x student’s postsecondary education stagnation by considering how deculturalization, the imposition of a perpetual foreigner identity, and the homogenization of Hispanic ethnicity, at the K-12 level, influences their relationship with education in college.” Her work will have a direct impact on the type of work that is central to the UTSA and COEHD mission and have great impact on the field.
What an honor! Congratulations, Dr. Garcia-Louis!
Warm regards,
Margo
