COEHD student receives job offer at Induction Ceremony

The Fall 2018 Teacher Induction Ceremony is a cause for celebration, especially for one COEHD student. Luis Sandoval, an interdisciplinary studies major receiving certification in grades 4-8 math and science, received a job offer from Northside Independent School District at the start of the ceremony. COEHD students inducted into the teaching profession

The College of Education and Human Development's Office of Teacher Education Services inducted more than 150 students into the profession of teaching at the Fall 2018 Teacher Induction Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 13 at the UTSA Main Campus.

UTSA Kappa Delta Pi inducts new members

COEHD commencement to take place Dec. 16
The College of Education and Human Development will participate in the first of two commencement ceremonies for The University of Texas at San Antonio. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 10 am at the Alamodome (100 Montana St, San Antonio, TX 78203). Portion of BRG Sidewalk and Four Bauerle Road Lot 3 Parking Spaces Closed December 17 - 21
A portion of the BRG sidewalk, immediately north of the Welcome Center exit doors, and four parking spaces located in the Bauerle Road Parking Lot 3, will be closed from Monday, December 17, 2018 until Friday, December 21, 2018, as part of the canopy re-roofing project. A dumpster, set up in the closed parking spaces, will be used to dispose of roofing and construction materials. Both work areas will be cordoned off with barricades and construction tape. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

UTSA colleges receive grants to foster student success

The UTSA Office of Information Technology (OIT) has announced the recipients of its annual Academic Support Solutions Fund awards. This year, 15 proposals spanning five UTSA colleges were selected to receive grants ranging from $5,000 to $22,000. 

Informal learning is an educational building block

Traditions help UTSA graduates stand out at Commencement

Each May and December, thousands of Roadrunners, along with their families and friends, gather in downtown San Antonio at the Alamodome for UTSA Commencement ceremonies. As they celebrate earning their degrees, these graduates are participating in a number of special traditions tied to the momentous occasion. 

Tamalada tradition lives on in Market Square

“It’s not so much the tamal, but it’s really the process,” said Ellen Riojas Clark, co-founder of the event and a Professor Emerita of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at University of Texas at San Antonio. As you knead the masa, “you’re putting in years and years of history and culture,” she said. Just as important as the ingredients are the family and friends gathered, along with “the stories, the jokes and the chisme.”
