Subject: Nominations and applications requested for Graduate School associate dean

Dear Colleagues,

Could you please share with your faculty and also recommend/nominate faculty who would be willing to serve as Associate Dean in the Graduate School with the primary responsibility for dissemination and assisting in strategic implementation of The Graduate Student Success Task Force recommendations? A brief job description that can be shared is below:

Associate Dean of the Graduate School

The Vice Provost for Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies and Dean of the Graduate School intends to appoint an Associate Dean to join the Graduate School team by late June of 2021.  The new Associate Dean will assist the Vice Provost and Graduate School team, in partnership with the academic colleges, with the dissemination of information and campus-wide training related to recommendations from the Graduate Student Success Task Force (https://www.utsa.edu/strategicplan/documents/Graduate-Student-Success-Task-Force-Final-Report.pdf).

The Associate Dean will be expected to be serve through the summer and FY 2022.  Renewal or modification of this appointment may occur at the discretion of the Vice Provost and Dean of The Graduate School, depending on need and candidate interest.

After reviewing the Task Force Final Report, faculty with interest in being considered for this Associate Dean role should submit a letter of interest and recent curriculum vitae to the Vice Provost and Dean of The Graduate School by email at Graduate.VPDean@utsa.edu. The letter of interest should state the candidate’s experiences and qualifications for the role, as well as describe the perspectives and assets the candidate brings with regard to dissemination of policy information and assistance with training on new policies. The letter of interest and CV from interested candidates are due Monday, June 8.

Additionally, nominations of Associate Dean candidates are solicited.  Please email the Vice Provost and Dean of The Graduate School with the name of the suggested faculty nominee and a brief statement about why they would be a good candidate for the Associate Dean position by June 1, 2021. The Vice Provost and Dean of The Graduate School will then initiate a conversation with the nominee regarding interest to solicit materials for consideration.

The Vice Provost and faculty and staff leadership in The Graduate School will review and evaluate candidate materials and will select the Associate Dean in accordance with university faculty appointment processes, and will be coordinated with the candidate’s college dean and department chair. The Graduate School Dean may hold interviews with each applicant and may ask for faculty and administrator input in the process of identifying the best candidate for the Associate Dean position.

Regards,
