The Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion is seeking nominations for a variety of awards. 

 

The deadline for all nominations and applications is April 15, 2015.

 

UJIMA Awards

The UJIMA Awards will be given to students whose leadership actions best match the UJIMA principles of Collective Work and Responsibility. This award recognizes the student who best applies these principles to enhance the experience of African American and Black students during their matriculation at UTSA.

The Awards are presented to the African American or Black students who best serve UTSA as leaders of an organization or event, maintain a Good Academic Standing and exemplify a positive character and encouraging attitude.

 

Ujima Leadership Award

This award will honor a deserving UTSA student who has shown strong Leadership Skills.  Nominees must:

-       Be of African or African American ethnic origin

-       Be a currently enrolled student at UTSA

-       Be a Senior, or Graduate Student

-       Be in Good Academic Standing (cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0 or better)

-       Attend the UJIMA Ceremony on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the HUC Ballroom 1

 

Ujima Community Involvement Award

This award will honor a deserving UTSA student who has shown a strong commitment to community involvement.  Nominees must:

-       Be of African or African American ethnic origin

-       Be a currently enrolled student at UTSA (any classification)

-       Be in Good Academic Standing (cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0 or better)

-       Attend the UJIMA Ceremony on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the UC Ballroom 1

This Award can be presented to a student of any classification AND only ONCE in their tenure at UTSA.

 

Ujima Faculty AwardThe Award will be given to a faculty member whose actions best match the UJIMA principles of Collective Work and Responsibility.  A faculty member will be recognized with an award for their role as a leader and mentor at UTSA.

 

Lavender Awards

Lavender Leadership Award – The Lavender Leadership Award will be presented to a GLBTQ or Ally student who best serves UTSA as a leader of an organization or event. Also, the Leadership Award is for the student who best maintains a Good Academic Standing and who best exemplifies a positive character and encouraging attitude.

This award will honor a deserving UTSA student who has shown strong Leadership Skills.  Nominees must:

-       Identify as GLBTQ or Ally

-       Be a currently enrolled student at UTSA

-       Be a Senior, or Graduate Student

-       Be in Good Academic Standing (cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0 or better)

-       Attend Lavender Graduation Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the UC Denman Room.

 

Lavender Faculty AwardThe Award will be given to a faculty or staff member whose actions have displayed a commitment to supporting GLBTQ students at UTSA.

A faculty member will be recognized with an award for their role as a leader and mentor at UTSA.

 

In addition to the above Awards, the application process is open for the GLBTQ Scholarship

 

It takes a world of difference to make a different world. The Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion at UTSA along with generous donors, work toward a different world for the many diverse student groups on our campus. We believe that every student should have access to exceptional opportunities that allow them to rise to their full educational and professional potential.  The GLBTQ Scholarship is one of the ways that we support student groups on campus.

To be eligible for a GLBTQ Scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

*        Current undergraduates must be enrolled on a full-time basis (at least 12 hours) or current graduate students must be enrolled in at least six hours.

*        Undergraduate and Graduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

*        Recipients must be active members of Spectrum, the GLBTQ student organization

*        Recipients must be in good disciplinary standing with the university
