The Academy for Teacher Excellence (ATE) in the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is proud to join the nearly 150 public and private sector organizations who answered thae White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics’ 25th anniversary call to action.
ATE answered the call to action with the Annual Academy for Teacher Excellence: Summer Bridging Institute (ATE-SBI) committing over $500,000 to focus on Professional Development and Outreach, “Grow-your-own” initiative. The goal is to increase the number of Latina/o teachers in critical teaching areas by 80 (40 students from local high schools and 40 from local community colleges) in the next five years. The ATE makes a commitment to annually host the free, weeklong Summer Bridging Institute (ATE-SBI) for teacher candidates, novice teachers, and interested educators in an effort to recruit, support, and provide ongoing professional development to Latina/o teachers in our community. ATE-SBI provides networking opportunities for teacher candidates and teachers to learn, share, and support each other in a collegial atmosphere creating learning communities and communities of practice.
