COEHD Faculty, After reading an email, we should always have the mindset of “is this email legit?, do I know this person?, what email address is it coming from?” This is where the phrase
STOP.LOOK.THINK comes in!
There is a GMAIL account named Dept.Chair341 that was created by Hackers for a phishing attack - to gain information.
It is being sent to all faculty to get your cellphone number. DO NOT RESPOND. The message looks similar to:

Available, cellphone number?
Best regards
So far, I’ve seen COU and BBL targeted. I’m sure all departments will see this email soon!
Because everybody has a cell phone nowadays, Smishing Attacks are becoming the preferred method of committing fraud!
If you have already responded with your
phone number, please be aware of any Text (Smishing Attack) and Phone/Voice (Vishing Attack).
NOTE: This semi yellow box message below is displayed in emails. If you see this, it is NOT coming from UTSA so be extra careful when responding
to emails or clicking on links.
