Dear faculty,

This is a reminder of info sent out previously, but is important. Any outgoing grant that includes a request to buyout a percentage of time from a faculty member’s 9-month salary must include a completed Buyout Worksheet, whether the buyout is for a course (10% of 9-month salary) or for research time (a % up to maximum on one’s research time in workload agreement).  Each investigator must complete and sign this. If course buyout is requested, the chair must sign it as well.

All proposals using grant funds to buy out faculty time from their 9-month contract (for course buyout or research time buyout) need to upload a Buyout Worksheet into CAYUSE 5 days before funder due date. For course buyouts, both the Department Chair and Investigator must sign the form.

If no Buyout Worksheet is included for an investigator with the proposal, then that investigator becomes ineligible for the new salary savings return opportunity. To ensure your eligibility for a share of the salary savings returned, be sure to submit a completed form with outgoing proposals.

The other eligibility criteria is to fulfill your obligation to upload necessary documents for review 5 days prior to funder deadline, and have all final documents uploaded and PI approval of the routed proposal in CAYUSE 2 days prior to funder due date.

I’m going to send a separate reminder about the importance of meeting the 5-2 rule which is less about how it will benefit you to do so, but about how it adversely affects others when faculty don’t do this. It’s important faculty are aware of how delayed proposals affect others in the university.

Thank you and let me know if you have any questions about this,

Michael
