African American Studies Teacher’s Academy Returns for Second Year

The African American Studies Teacher’s Academy returns virtually for its second year on July 7 and 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Academy is open to teachers, students, school administrators, and community members.

As an alum, Hind Al-Karimi is proud to share her knowledge and experience from UTSA with teachers in Saudi Arabia. As the author of a children’s book, she’s excited to share her home with children all over the world. Read about Al-Karimi’s work as an educator, author, and proud UTSA alum.

Clinical Mental Health Students Andrea Ramos and Gabriela Losoya

Growing up as children of veterans, Andrea Ramos and Gabriela Losoya were both drawn to working with veterans. Now they are the first clinical mental health counseling (CMHC) students from UTSA to complete their internship at the South Texas Veterans’ Health Care System.

The UTSA College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) and San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) are partnering to lead three Dual Language Community Lab Schools.

Fronteras: Study Finds Some Young Mexican Americans Borrow Linguistic Traits To Create, Reinforce Social Media Identities

Associate Professor Dr. Sidury Christiansen examined 1,300 Facebook posts, conducted interviews, and then analyzed the discourse used by this bilingual community online. Her research discovered certain vernacular language traits typically attributed to African American speakers were widely adopted by Mexican American youth as a way to construct a “non-white” identity.

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and UTSA is hosting a series of events inviting members of the Roadrunner community to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff.

Summer Bridging Institute July 13-15, 2021 flyer

The San Antonio Writing Project will be hosting a digital writing marathon on July 27, 2021, as part of Write Across America 2021. SAWP will digitally host teachers and writers from across the US as they travel and write virtually.
