Please see the invitation below for a virtual event related to opportunities within the Department of Defense. Our Senior Grant Development Coordinator, Mr. Iwan Notowidigdo, has familiarity with their programs and has indicated that these sessions could be useful.

According to Iwan, “Department of Defense grants are very methodical, their program officers are very helpful and responsive, and usually they are funded for an extensive time period. DOD areas that connect with education tend to be things related to stress, preparation of students in STEM fields, and overall workforce development. Areas such as cybernetics/machine learning/artificial intelligence, weapons development, or military training scenarios are more far afield of what COEHD faculty do...but you never know where linkages might be found.”

Please see below an invitation to attend “Taking the Pentagon to the People” on January 27, 2022. This event is a full day of speakers and faculty/student engagement opportunities with various departments within the DoD. It covers a series of topics ranging from recruitment to research. Please share this broadly within your colleges, as we want to ensure UTSA is well represented.

Please also let me know who in each of your colleges might assist with student outreach. The DoD has suggested other universities have provided approved absence and even extra credit for students. At a minimum, I want to ensure UTSA students are engaged in the recruitment events.
