The Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies cordially invites you to stop by and view our annual ofrenda (altar) for Día de los Muertos; it recognizes loved ones that have passed away.

In addition, you may either 1) email us a photo with the name of your loved one whom you’d like to honor [ bbl@utsa.edu ], or 2)  bring your own photo to the altar.

November 1^st is Día de los Muertos, which is a cultural celebration that reunites the living and the dead, where families/friends can create ofrendas (altars) to honor the deceased. The altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, pictures of the people that have passed, and favorite foods and drinks of the departed. These offerings are thought to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers and join in the celebration.

We are located in MB 3.112, and are open Mon-Thurs, 8am – 5pm.
