The 2018-2019 faculty award cycle is officially open and the university is seeking qualified and outstanding nominations for the awards listed below.  Please submit your Awards packet on or before the college deadline. Awards packets must route through your Department Chair, before the Dean will review.  Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Teaching Award

The Piper Professor Award recognizes 10 outstanding college professors each year from across Texas for their dedication to the teaching profession and for their outstanding academic, scientific and scholarly achievement. UTSA may submit only one nominee annually.

Award: $5,000

1 nominee per college; full-time T, TT and NTT faculty eligible

  1. Completed nomination form
  2. Current semester’s course syllabi
  3. Nominee’s shortened CV highlighting information not already featured in the application form
  4. The names of five people willing to submit letters of recommendation

 Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award

COLLEGE DEADLINE (Phase I): Nov. 1, 2018

The UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Awards recognize faculty who deliver the highest quality of undergraduate instruction, demonstrate their commitment to teaching, and have a history and promising future of sustained excellence with undergraduate teaching. The number of nominees UTSA may submit varies each year.

Award: $25,000

2 T, 1 TT, 1 NTT nominees per college; full-time T, TT and NTT faculty eligible

 

 All nomination packets must contain the following materials for Phase I review:

1.     A completed application form (6 pages maximum)

2.     A CV that emphasizes teaching accomplishments (maximum: 15 pages)

3.     Written statement delineating their philosophy of teaching (maximum: 3 pages, 12 pt. font).

 

Richard S. Howe Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award

The Howe Teaching Award recognizes 2 faculty members per year who excel in developing signature learning experiences for undergraduate students. This could include creative applied or experiential learning beyond the traditional classroom environment.

Award: $2,000

Number of nominees varies per college; full-time T, TT and NTT faculty with at least 3 years at UTSA eligible

 

Nominees must be full-time faculty members with at least three years at UTSA and may be either tenured/tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty. Recipients of the Howe Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award are eligible for re-nomination after a five-year period.

 

Completed award nomination form

1.      A letter of support by either the dean or the department chair that includes a thorough description of the signature experience and its impact and value for undergraduate students

2.      Two letters of support from current or former students that describe the experience and emphasize its impact. Emails are acceptable.

3.      Nominee’s current curriculum vitae that emphasizes teaching accomplishments

 

 

President’s Distinguished Achievement Awards

For nearly 30 years, the President’s Distinguished Achievement Awards have recognized UTSA faculty members for their outstanding contributions in a number of categories. Up to fifteen awards are given each year in seven distinct categories.

Award: $1,000

NEW: President’s Innovation and Impact (I2) Award

Innovations, both in the areas of learning and research, are central to UTSA’s vision of becoming a model for student success, a great research university, and an exemplar for strategic growth and excellence. To foster and celebrate innovative thinking at UTSA, the President’s I2 Award will recognize creative and innovative projects of high impact that emerge from our institution. One award will be given to a faculty-led team of up to five individuals working in all areas relevant to the mission of UTSA.

Team Award: $1,000 per UTSA employee/student (up to $5,000 per team)

Number of nominees varies per college; Teams must be led by a T, TT or NTT faculty member; however other team members may be non-faculty (graduate students, staff, postdocs and/or external collaborators).

 

  1. Completed award nomination form
  2. Recent letter of support from a faculty member or department chair clearly addressing why the team is deserving of this award. Please note the relevant discipline(s) or activities and any demonstrated benefits or potential benefits to UTSA students, businesses, the public, or others.
  3. Self-statement prepared by the team lead describing the work, including both the project’s development and implementation. Be sure to clearly articulate why the work is both innovative and impactful. For the purposes of this award, projects that are farther along in their implementation and that have shown evidence of impact will be at an advantage.
  4. OPTIONAL: Nomination packets may include up to two of the following as additional evidence of impact: a letter of support from a group that can speak to the impacts; data on the impacts; a media article; or evidence of student involvement (e.g. student stories), if applicable.

 

President’s Distinguished Diversity Award

The Diversity Awards recognize 1 individual faculty or staff member, 1 group of faculty/staff, 1 individual student and 1 group of students whose work helps the UTSA community think about and practice diversity and inclusion in creative and collaborative ways.

Individual Award: $1,000

Group Award: $1,000 per person (up to $5,000 per group)

Nominees not vetted by college/department; instead, nominations are submitted directly; all faculty/staff eligible

  1. Completed award nomination form
  2. One letter of support from an appropriate person of responsibility (at least 1 page, not to exceed 5 pages)
