Meeting the mental health care needs of Veterans
With San Antonio being one of the fastest growing areas of the country for Veterans, the need for mental health care
for Veterans there is expanding. At South Texas VA, the Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) internship program is not only helping to meet that need but strengthening VA from within.

NSF awards grant to Dr. Mejia and Dr. Christiansen for bilingual STEM education initiative
The U.S. National Science Foundation awarded a $419,683 grant to Alex Mejia, Ph.D. and Martha Sidury Christiansen, Ph.D.,
for their project titled, “Collaborative Research: Racial equity: Bridging conocimiento indigena into U.S. science dual language immersion: Digital curriculum development as a remedy for epistemicide.”

A Mark of Excellence: The Legacy of Belinda Bustos Flores
With almost 45 years working in education and 30 of those years being with the College of Education and Human Development
at UTSA, Belinda Bustos Flores, Ph.D., is leaving a legacy of excellence, change, and hope. Dr. Flores is the Associate Dean for Strategic Partnership, Preparation and Growth, a Professor of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, UTSA Dual Language Community Lab Schools
Partner, and the Founder and Director of The Academy for Teacher Excellence Research Center (ATE).

On August 18, 1974 the College of Education and Human Development recognized it's first graduating class.This milestone
honors the pioneering spirits of the early graduates and also reflects how COEHD and The University of Texas at San Antonio has evolved through the decades.

NIH Awards UTSA Professors $1.35 Million to Train Next Generation of Biomedical Engineering ‘Superheroes’
It is never too early for students to start their STEM education. Science, technology, engineering and math foster critical
thinking, problem solving, collaboration, creativity and technology literacy. Those skills are vital for educational and career success.

Imagining Together: Reflecting on the Democratizing Racial Justice Project

The event is dedicated to examining and sustaining conversation about what it means to Democratize Racial Justice. After
years of Mellon-funded work, we want to bring together DRJ collaborators – educators, community leaders, artists, scholars, writers, singers and more – to share perspectives, projects, and final products. The gathering will be anchored by testimonios of work
accomplished, conversations about sustaining social justice efforts in these times and showcasing the amazing products created since DRJ started in January of 2021.
