After 40 years of service to UTSA, Richard A. Diem has retired. Lauded for being one of the main catalysts behind the formation of the UTSA Honors College, Diem’s career includes 13 years of service as dean of the Honors College in addition to time as a professor of education.

A new report backed by the State Department found a 10 percent jump in students coming to the U.S. for higher education.

The State Board of Education on Wednesday rejected a rule change that would have allowed school boards to hire anyone they wanted as superintendent — even if the candidate had no public education experience.

Chancellor Bill McRaven said Thursday he will require that a woman or minority candidate be interviewed for every high-level position at the UT System's 14 universities and medical schools.

We're brought up to believe our teachers are modern-day saints. Just look at how we portray them in the movies and on TV. From Dead Poets Society's iconic Mr. Keating to resourceful LouAnne Johnson in Dangerous Minds, we reinforce time and again that teaching is a noble calling. These teachers are heroes, we're told. It's hard to imagine them even thinking about money.

The UTSA Mexico Center offers an Educational Research Fellowship that provides financial assistance for student/faculty research projects on Mexico-related topics that need time in Mexico to do field work or consultation at a university or research center. The student grants are funded by the “Carlos and Malu Alvarez International Study Fund.” The fund pays for student travel to Mexico, food and lodging, local travel, and supplies/materials needed to complete the project (i.e. data sets for quantitative analysis, transcribers/recorders for fieldwork, etc.)
