UTSA uses musical program to teach global issues to students in SA
When researchers from the College of Education and Human Development
first teamed up in the Fall of 2019 with Musical Bridges Around the World and UT Health San Antonio to study an educational program called Musical Sprouts, they couldn’t imagine the challenges and opportunities that awaited
them. Musical Sprouts combines fine arts, cultural exchange, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) lessons for under-served elementary students in San Antonio.
Educational psychology professors win Article of the Year for work in social justice
Three professors in the Department of Educational Psychology have been awarded Article of the Year by School Psychology Training and
Pedagogy (SPTP) for their paper titled “Social justice training in school psychology through a university-school service learning partnership.” Associate Professor Felicia Castro-Villarreal, Professor Jeremy Sullivan, and Associate Professor Victor
Villarreal were recognized at an award ceremony on February 14. According to the journal’s website, the award is given in recognition of the article’s focus on training practices, critical thinking, systemic issues, and applicability to other professionals
UTSA seeking the next generation of diverse leaders through its Faculty Fellowship Program
The UTSA Academic Affairs office is seeking nominations and applications through March 25 for the 2022-2023 Faculty Fellowship Program. With an emphasis on mentorship, shadowing
and one-on-one training, the fellowship is personalized to meet the needs and professional goals of each individual faculty member who participates in the program. It is open to tenured faculty at the rank of associate or full professor, or full-time, fixed-term
track faculty who have been employed as faculty at UTSA for at least three years.

up with San Antonio Time Dollar, a nonprofit community development organization, to provide new programs and services to the Westside community.
UTSA invests in program to train next generation of engineering educators
UTSA has launched a new program designed to train the next generation of engineering educators from diverse experiences and backgrounds. Housed within the Margie and Bill Klesse
College of Engineering and Integrated Design (Klesse College) and in partnership with the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD), the Engineering Education program currently offers two graduate certificates and is in the process of developing a
new master’s degree in engineering education, which will focus on helping students expand their teaching, research and grant proposal skills.
San Antonio woman nourishes her barrio with a community food pantry and fridge
There’s two places where you can find Dr. Sylvia Mendoza: shopping for groceries, or in her classroom teaching Mexican-American studies. She also provides access to food in
her barrio on the West side of San Antonio with her community pantry and fridge. She created an Instagram account for the pantry @WestSideCommunityPantry_SA, where folks grab some food or leave some.

E. Chavez March for Justice has been a day for our San Antonio community to unite, celebrate, and remember a great humanitarian. Equally important, it is a day to never forget the Si Se Puede Spirit Cesar E. Chavez encouraged us to embrace so that
we can overcome the injustices and inequalities our community faces.
UTSA is honoring the work of Cesar Chavez with the following events: Shuttle service to the City of San Antonio's Cesar Chavez March for Justice and a pre-march breakfast hosted by the Westside Community Center.
