Camp Durango Volunteers Needed

The Educational Psychology Department is hosting a series of camps for kids diagnosed with, or at-risk for autism this summer. Camp Durango will focus on giving individuals with autism the opportunity to engage in summer camp activities while working on social, communication, adaptive, and play skills using the principles of behavior analysis.

They are currently recruiting volunteers, 16 years old and up, to be paired with a camper and serve as their counselor.  Counselors will support campers in crafts, games, sports, scavenger hunts, dances, and more!

Camp Durango will be held at the UTSA Downtown campus, Monday through Thursday during the weeks of June 7 through July 26. Campers will attend for a whole week (M-Th) and there are two sessions; morning from 8:30am to 12:00pm and afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:30pm.  Volunteers can commit to as few or as many sessions/ weeks as their schedule will allow.

In order to follow CDC guidelines for COVID-19, all staff and volunteers will be required to wear a mask while on campus and complete daily health checks. All groups will be limited to 10 people or less and strict cleaning protocols will be in place. We also HIGHLY encourage volunteers to receive the COVID-19 vaccination before participating at camp.

We would love for you to share this opportunity with your students, or anyone you think might be interested in participating.
