The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies celebrated two alumni and three current students during their annual Outstanding Alumni and Scholarship Awards ceremony on Saturday, May 19. Dr. Vanessa Hammler Kenon, assistant vice provost for the
UTSA Office of Information Technology, and Marisa B. Perez-Diaz, District 3 State Board of Education member, each received an Outstanding Alumni award. ELPS graduate students Nancy Preyor-Johnson, Denisse Ramos, and Manuelita Reyes each received Scholarship

Announces Stage 1 Drought Restrictions Effective May 21 |
The City of San Antonio is now in Stage I Drought Restrictions according to the San Antonio Water System (SAWS). Stage
1 of the city’s drought plan goes in effect when the 10-day average of the Edwards Aquifer at the J-17 monitoring well drops to 660 feet or below.
In support of water conservation and environmental stewardship, UTSA campuses will water only on Mondays before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m. Campuses will be restricted from washing impervious covers, such as parking lots, driveways, streets, buildings and sidewalks
and operating the sprinkler and irrigation systems on weekends. Athletic and sports fields are considered special use areas and additional watering day variances may be requested and granted from SAWS. A SAWS variance will also be required to operate outdoor

Why," which premieres this week. The first season, which centered on the suicide of a high school student, triggered cautions from the National Association of School Psychologists. Netflix has responded to concerns by adding PSA-style messages filmed by the
cast and putting up a web site with links to resources.

Under a partnership the University of Texas at San Antonio, students in their junior and senior years at MacArthur
University Prep, or MacUP for short, will be able to earn up to 24 college credit hours by taking classes at UTSA’s downtown campus. They will pay about $200 a semester for classes that would cost them closer to $13,000 as university students.

researcher at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has co-authored a study examining important cognitive and non-cognitive predictors of entering STEM fields for Hispanic high school students.
