Dear Colleagues,
Three important points discussed at yesterday’s college meeting are summarized below. Please review.
1. College Research Award and College Mentoring Award Proposals.
Just in case it was not clear, we will only consider those proposals for which we receive advanced notificaiton via Wufoo by
the deadline. So I am extending the deadline until tomorrow
(Friday) for junior faculty to submit their (non-binding but required) notificaiton of
intent to submit a proposal for one or both of these awards. This notification is needed to allow us to form a committee of reviewers, give them an estimate of the time commitment involved, and ensure a swift submission-to-notification timeframe so you
can start your research activities asap.
2. F&A Distributions to Departments and Principal Investigators (PIs) for FY17/18 were made at the end of January. Department Chairs can/should
provide PIs their Cost Center account information. PIs and Departments need to reconcile these accounts monthly (running MFRs) to ensure only intended and research-related costs are applied to these accounts. Chairs and Admins my contact Linyi Zhou,
Associate Director of Fiscal Administration (Linyi.zhou@utsa.edu), if there is any confusion about whether an account exits for a
PI or if grants have been linked to specific F&A Cost Centers.
3. 5-2 Rule
adherence applies to all grant proposals submitted through the RSC, whether internal or external. That is,
5 days before the proposal is due to the funder, PIs must email the budget and completed proposal to
COEHDFacultyResearch@utsa.edu
so that the College as well as the RSC have copies, so that both can begin review of your research plan and budget in the 3 days before the 2-day routing period starts. Late proposals, those not received 5-days before deadline, may not get full review and
may, if submitted, only get approved to submit with the need to re-negotiate the budget or scope with the funder upon award. For this reason,
a communication from the Department Chair confirming the PI and Chair’s awareness of understand this will be requested prior to submission.
Thank you,
