UTSA researcher studies effects of stress on law enforcement

Brazilian scholar finds research inspiration at UTSA

For the last two months, she’s also been a visiting scholar at The University of Texas at San Antonio’s College of Education and Human Development.

Heroes & Helpers

Want to help brighten a child’s holiday this year?

UTSA Dept. of Public Safety is part of the Target Heroes & Helpers program, providing 50 local children with $100 Target Gift Cards.

The children will shop for their families and themselves for the holiday, accompanied by a police officer (Heroes).

Helpers will assist with wrapping gifts and chatting with family members.

Last year’s event was filled with good feelings, laughter, and smiles. Watch the video here.

Please join us—and bring a friend or family member—and provide a few wrapping supplies. You can wrap gifts to support the children and their families.

Academic Success coach internship available

The Tomas Rivera Center's Academic Success Coaching is looking for interns. As an intern, you will:
• Meet with undergraduate students 1:1 for Academic Coaching sessions
• Facilitate group study skills workshops
• Maintain confidential student files and record data
• Meet with your supervisor and team weekly

Requirements:
• Graduate student enrolled full-time or part-time
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Full spring 2019 semester commitment

Please note:
• This is an unpaid position, not benefits eligible
• A CBC is required
• Training and materials will be provided

Researcher: Obesity makes flu more severe, harder to fight off

The flu vaccine is less effective for obese people, who are also likely to experience more severe flu symptoms, Stacey Schultz-Cherry said Saturday, speaking at the annual Vaccine Development Center of San Antonio Conference. Schultz-Cherry, a faculty member at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and Deputy Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Animals and Birds, was one of several keynote speakers at the conference this weekend, discussing research into how obesity affects the spread of and vaccination against the flu.
