REDKE has notified us of three fellowship/scholarship opportunities, which are eligible for application development support. I have also included information about another two US Department of Education IES Research Network grant competitions that will be released at the end of September and in October. A Fund for Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) grant competition is active as well as the Spencer Foundation Conference Grants program. The Spencer Foundation Research Practice Partnerships grants program will be available in September.  

  

Fulbright U.S. Scholars (Core Program) 

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers over 800 awards in more than 135 countries for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects around the world.  College and university faculty, as well as artists and professionals from a wide range of fields can join over 400,000 Fulbrighters who have come away with enhanced skills, new connections, and greater mutual understanding. The website lists the following competition categories: (1) Fulbright Scholars Awards; (2) Fulbright Distinguished Scholars Awards; (3) Fulbright Postdoctoral Awards; and (4) Fullbright International Education Administrator Awards.

American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellow 

ACLS invites research proposals from scholars in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. Given the disproportionate effect the pandemic’s social and economic disruptions have had on emerging, independent, and untenured scholars, ACLS will continue in the 2022-23 competition year to offer these fellowships solely to untenured scholars who have earned the PhD within eight years of the application deadline. ACLS welcomes applications from scholars without faculty appointments and scholars off the tenure track.

Fellows of the Woodrow Wilson Center 

Through an international competition, the Center offers 9-month residential fellowships. The Wilson Center invites scholars, practitioners, journalists and public intellectuals to take part in its flagship international Fellowship Program. Fellows conduct research and write in their areas of interest, while interacting with policymakers in Washington and Wilson Center staff and other scholars in residence.  The Center accepts policy-relevant, non-advocacy fellowship proposals that address key challenges confronting the United States and the world.

Application Package Available: October 20, 2022/Deadline: February 23, 2023 For the Digital Learning Platforms Network, IES intends to fund up to 10 grants for Research Teams. 

                Through the National Center for Education Research (NCER), the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) provides support for programs of research in areas of demonstrated national need. The IES research grant programs are designed to provide interested individuals and the general public with reliable and valid information about education practices that support learning and improve academic achievement and access to education opportunities for all learners. Through the Research Networks Focused on Critical Problems of Education Policy and Practice grant program, NCER focuses resources and attention on specific education problems or issues that are a high priority for the Nation. NCER also establishes both a structure and process for researchers who are working on these issues to share ideas, build new knowledge, and strengthen their research and dissemination capacity. Through this program, NCER seeks to establish a new Career and Technical Education Research Network and seeks to expand the Digital Learning Platforms Network, also known as SEERNet (https://www.seernet.org), which was originally established in FY 2021. 

 

84.324C Special Education Research and Development Center: D Supporting Students with Disabilities in Postsecondary Education (Postsecondary Center). Application Package Available: September 30, 2022/Deadline: January 12, 2023 For the Special Education Research and Development Center competition, IES intends to fund up to one grant for the Postsecondary Center. 

Through NCSER, IES invests in Special Education Research and Development Centers (R&D Centers) that contribute to the body of special education knowledge in the United States by engaging in research, development, evaluation, and national leadership activities aimed at improving the education system and, ultimately, student achievement. Through this program, NCSER seeks to establish a new R&D Center on Supporting Students with Disabilities in Postsecondary Education.

                The purpose of this program is to promote postsecondary completion for students close to completion, whether for students currently enrolled in higher education, students who are no longer enrolled because of challenges they faced during the COVID–19 pandemic and close to completion, or both. Institutions may opt to supplement or expand evidence-based and data-driven activities to support retention and completion for both groups. This program aims to improve student outcomes, including retention, transfer, credit accumulation, and completion, by augmenting evidence-based activities that are already underway at eligible institutions of higher education (IHEs). Note: This RFP has participation (application) of a community college as an invitational priority, which does not preclude UTSA from applying. Please contact me for further information.

The Conference Grant Program provides support to scholars to organize small research conferences, focused symposia, or other forms of convenings around important issues in education research. This program is intended to bring together researchers, community members, practitioners, policymakers, and other important collaborators whose expertise, substantive knowledge and practice, theoretical insight, or methodological expertise can be engaged in ways that help to build upon and advance education research. We encourage applicants to think creatively about how convenings can expand our understanding of research methods and how new innovative research methods can impact educational research that is grounded in advancing racial equity. This grant program supports proposals with budgets of $50,000 or less. 

 

Spencer Foundation Research Practice Partnerships grants

                The Research-Practice Partnership (RPP) Grants Program is intended to support education research projects that engage in collaborative and participatory partnerships with project budgets up to $400,000 and durations of up to three years. Spencer Foundation accepts Intent to Apply forms once a year in this program. Spencer Foundation views partnerships as an important approach to knowledge generation and the improvement of education, broadly construed. Over the long term, they anticipate that research conducted by RPPs will result in new insights into the processes, practices, and policies that improve education for learners, educators, families, communities, and institutions where learning and teaching happen (e.g., schools, universities, museums, other workplaces).
