Doctoral Hooding Ceremony:
Celebrating Rosa Chapa

At the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, we celebrated Rosa Chapa, who passed away in March as she was completing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Rosa deserves to be recognized for her life as an educator, and the research she was working on in the doctoral program, which addressed school dropout rates among young Latinas. Thank you to all of Rosa’s family for being at the ceremony and thank you Nadia for crossing the stage on your mother’s behalf. We know everything Rosa contributed to the university through her studies was for her family. Now and Forever, Rosa Chapa is a Roadrunner.

"I chose to pursue my master’s in Higher Education Administration because I wanted to explore a field of study that interests me so much. I want to work with students, faculty, and staff at a collegiate level. Once I obtain this degree, I will be so happy. With some more good news, I was accepted I to the Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership for this upcoming Fall. I absolutely love school and love working with students on college campuses."

"I have always had a passion for working with kids. Since acting as a student teacher from January 2023 to May 2023 has truly been the highlight of my college career. My students constantly inspire me to pursue my dreams just as I encourage them to do the same. I’m so thankful for my time at UTSA as well as my wonderful students."

"I was born and raised in Mexico and moved to the United States at the age of 14. My journey to learn English and the teachers who guided me along the way really impacted me and inspired my dream of becoming a Bilingual Teacher! I hope to take my experiences and make a difference for as many future children who will be going through their own version of what I once did."

"I am a Louisiana girl born and raised! I spent most of my childhood inside of classrooms as I come from a long line of 7 teachers. I knew teaching was my passion when I asked Santa one year for an overhead projector and a Whiteboard! I also got the amazing opportunity to take a year off to do the Disney College Program in 2021! So you could say I am a bit of a Disney fanatic! I can’t wait to continue with my M.A at UTSA in the coming years!"
