Subject: [Coehd] Policy Report for MAS in K-12 schools
Dear colleagues,
I wanted to share a MAS policy report written by Dr. Alice Ginsberg for Rutgers University's Samuel Dewitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity and Justice. This
is the first official report on MAS in Texas k-12 schools and focuses on the work we've been doing here in San Antonio over the past few years since the Texas
State Board of Education's approval of ethnic studies in 2015.
The report: "Leading from a hyphen: A conocimientos movement to integrate
Mexican American Studies into Texas schools" includes a list of comprehensive recommendations to support MAS and ethnic studies in schools, colleges and universities, and teacher education programs.
Big thanks to all the MAS expert teachers who participated in this report --- many who are UTSA alumni -- Genevie C. Rodriguez-Quiñones
(MAS and BBL), Araceli Manriquez (MAS and BBL), Anthony Gonzales, Anita Exilda Cisneros (ILT), Andres Lopez, and Dr. Elizabeth Rivas (BBL alumna and MAS faculty) --- and much gratitude to Dr. Marie Miranda who founded the academy, Dr. Gloria Gonzales, and
Dr. Marco Cervantes, and all of our community allies, civil rights leaders, and community of NACCS Tejas Foco MAS K-12 scholars who have been at the center of this epistemic movement!
You can access the report here:
I've also included a digitized copy.
Please feel free to share with your students and networks.
