COEHD professor wins competitive anti-racism seed grant 

 

 

Zhongfeng Tian, Ph.D., an Assistant Professor of TESOL and Applied Linguistics in the Bicultural Bilingual Department and his colleague Alisha Nguyen of Boston college have been awarded nearly $11,000 by the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Division K to advance anti-racist research and practices in teaching and teacher education. This grant will fund Tian and Nguyen as they collaborate with teachers and families in two dual language immersion preschools in the Greater Boston Area to design and implement an eight-week anti-racist biliteracy program in three classrooms.

 

 

 

Mathur and Kamat gift $20,000 to UTSA Prefreshman Engineering Program

 

 

UTSA Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the UTSA Graduate School Ambika Mathur and her husband, Deepak Kamat, have donated $20,000 to the Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP), a pre-college summer program that increases participation among traditionally underrepresented middle and high school students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

 

 

 

COEHD Hosts 14th Annual Research Colloquium

 

 

UTSA students and faculty gathered on March 3 for COEHD's 14th Annual Research Colloquim. Attendees were treated to presentations regarding research in disciplines that influence future educational research and development.

 

 

UTSA celebrates Women’s History Month with events throughout March

 

 

In its continued commitment to inclusive excellence, UTSA is hosting a month-long celebration in honor of Women’s History Month throughout March.Mirroring the national Women’s History Month theme of “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” events will feature a speaker series and performances by poets, authors, scholars and community leaders.

UTSA adds school psychology doctorate degree, first in region


The University of Texas at San Antonio is adding a doctoral degree program in school psychology, launching in fall 2023, at a time when schools are seeing an increased demand for licensed psychologists who specialize in working with children.

 

 

Critical Service-Learning with the Esperanza Center


During the fall 2021 semester, Dr. Kaitlin Popielarz, Assistant Professor, Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching participated in critical service-learning with the Esperanza Center alongside UTSA COEHD undergraduate students.

 

 

Dean Mario Torres advocates the can-do spirit at UTSA Day at John Jay High School


Mario Torres ’95, dean of the UTSA College of Education and Human Development, took a literal walk down memory lane on Thursday, February 17, visiting his high school alma mater John Jay for a special event held in his honor.
