Spotlight: 
Saldivar-Hull receives 2016 University Excellence Award

Dr. Sonia Saldivar-Hull, director of the Women's Studies Institute and professor of English, received the 2016 President’s Distinguished Diversity Award in the faculty/staff category. She was presented with the award during a special ceremony on Thursday, April 14 at the UTSA Main Campus.

Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, is pleased to announce that 23 new members were invited and inducted into its membership through the Omicron Chi of the University of Texas at San Antonio. This brings the total number of inductees into the chapter to a record of 51 during the academic school year, 2015-16.

MARISOL REYES, VANESSA SANSONE, DR. ZAID HADDAD  |  COEHDUTSA Student Government Association
​COEHD students Marisol Reyes (Bicultural-Bilingual Studies) and Vanessa Sansone (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies) were awarded the COEHD Outstanding Undergraduate Student and Outstanding Graduate Student awards, respectively, at the 2016 UTSA Student Government Association's University Life Awards Ceremony. Dr. Zaid Haddad, assistant professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching, received the Alumni Association's Distinguished Faculty Award at the ceremony.

Superintendents Say STAAR Testing Doesn’t Measure Up

Nearly 50 superintendents in the Houston area sent a letter to the Texas Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath, complaining about multiple problems with the State of Texas Assessments and Academic Readiness, or STAAR standardized test. Districts in the San Antonio area have also complained.

Study abroad program renews travel opportunities to Mexico for UTSA students, faculty

The first cohort of UTSA students to travel to Mexico since 2010 recently returned from a weeklong education trip to Mexico City. Eight faculty-led study abroad programs will visit Mexico this year to study everything from political science and global affairs to cross-cultural medicine to culture and civilization in Latin America. The expansion comes as a result of strengthened academic partnerships between UTSA and 26 Mexican institutions, centers and government entities.
