Dear COEHD Community,

There have been questions regarding immigration activities and how to handle certain situations should our students be affected.  While we do not anticipate this, below this email is a message containing relevant information from UTSA’s leadership team that has been circulating (you may have received this last week on 2/4). It includes links to valuable information and guidance. Please especially take note of the information that is included in the screenshot below (taken from the FAQ page), and can help you should an agent approach your classroom. Reach out with questions or if you need support, and please peruse the entirety of the resources provided.

Dear Roadrunners:

We are aware of questions within our community regarding news coverage of an increase in immigration enforcement across the nation. With guidance from the University of Texas (UT) System, we have an update and resources to share regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and our institution.

As a Texas educational institution, UTSA must follow all applicable state and federal laws, as well as UT System policies, regarding cooperation with federal authorities. We will carefully review any requests from authorities on a case-by-case basis and will consult with UT System as needed.

If students, faculty or staff have any concerns, please contact the following offices available to support you:

  •  UTSA Students Affairs has information for students on support services available both at the university and within the local community.
  • UTSA Academic Affairs has resources for students and faculty regarding registration, withdrawal procedures and academic records.
  • UTSA Office of Legal Affairs is available to answer any questions about subpoenas, warrants or other requests for information or student records.
  • UTSA Public Safety will provide guidance on access to campus and other law enforcement requests.

We also encourage you to review our Law Enforcement Requests webpage, which provides additional guidance regarding steps to take if you receive a request from ICE. We will continue to update this site and provide updates to our Roadrunner community as the situation evolves.

We thank you in advance for reviewing this important information.

Sincerely,

Heather Shipley
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
