Faculty Parents Network

A group of female UTSA faculty have come together to create a support network for faculty parents.  As women who are balancing roles as faculty members while at the same time raising children, we see a need to create space for conversations about the challenges and rewards of these dual roles.  We hope for this to be a network that provides resources, information, professional collegiality, and social interaction across our campuses.

We have created an email listserv that will serve as the primary means of communication and information sharing at this point.  We hope to soon create a website that will house information and resources that parents might find useful, such as information about local schools and childcare options, recommendations for service providers (pediatricians, pediatric dentists, etc.), summer camp information, and anything else that can be shared to help facilitate family life in San Antonio.

We believe that another important component of this initiative will be to provide opportunities for informal networking, friendship building, and social support with other faculty parents.  To this end, we will be hosting a brown bag lunch in the new Faculty Center on February 14th at 12:00 p.m.  We invite you to bring your lunch and enjoy an opportunity to meet with faculty parents from across campus.  We hope to plan additional events in the near future and would welcome input about the types of things that would be of interest to UTSA faculty parents.
