Through a collaboration of departments at the Downtown Campus we are hosting a Toy Gift Drive. This holiday season consider
sharing your generosity with families in need. Please donate a new, unwrapped gift suitable for a girl or boy from 3 months to 17 years old. Donations will benefit the children residing in nearby Alazan Apache Courts in San Antonio’s Westside community. Although
we cannot accept cash and gift card donations, a gift or toy donation in the $8 - $12 range would be most welcome.
Drop Off Location: Frio Street Commons near Starbuck’s
When: Monday, December 3rd through Monday, December 17th
Toys will be distributed at the 21st Annual Alazan Apache Holiday Party on Thursday, December 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Guadalupe Theater – 1301 Guadalupe St. A ticket and registration is required for families to enter the venue. Volunteer Opportunities are
available for that evening or for gift drop off.

newsela |
brought to you by Instructional
Technology Workshops
|

Newsela is an online news-as-literacy platform (and Chrome app) that features current, high-interest articles on everything from current events to myths and legends and from literature to science. Content is updated daily, with stories from a wide range of
sources (from the Associated Press to Scientific American to the Washington Post) in both English and Spanish. On top of this, all articles are Common Core-aligned and available in five Lexile levels, ranging (roughly) from third to 12th grade. Each leveled
text features a quiz tailored to that particular article plus a writing prompt that asks students to write and respond to what they've read -- some articles also include vocabulary words.
