Dear COEHD Faculty, Staff, and Students,

I am very pleased to announce Dr. Emily Bonner has agreed to serve in the permanent role as Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs. Dr. Bonner joined UTSA COEHD in 2009 as a Professor in ILT and was promoted to the rank of professor in 2021. She is an accomplished scholar who has secured awards as a PI and Co-PI totaling $3.7 million.

Over her career, Dr. Bonner has served in various leadership capacities at different levels covering a broad range of skills and duties. Her diverse experiences uniquely qualify her for this expanded role. In her brief time as interim AD for research, she’s made impressive advances in strengthening COEHD’s research infrastructure, incorporating new procedures to augment competitiveness of proposals, clarifying system workflows, and also curating programming to build extramural funding capacity among our faculty. Her prior experiences on the faculty affairs side also reveal her promise and potential in promoting faculty success, advancement, and retention including serving on the University of Texas System Faculty Advisory Council, chairing the Faculty Senate, in addition to serving on numerous committees including the Provost’s Leadership Council and Dean’s Advisory Council.

I’m absolutely confident Dr. Bonner will flourish in this new role, capitalize on our current momentum as an R1 and Tier One, and sustain the impressive growth COEHD has had in research productivity and faculty success over the years.

Please join me in congratulating, Dr. Emily Bonner as our permanent Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs. This new role becomes effective September 1st.

Mario
