UTSA’s Camp Durango fills service gap for families with autistic children


In the waning days of summer, the downtown campus at the University of Texas at San Antonio has been alive with the sounds of play. Video games. Laser tag. Potato sack races.


For 23 autistic adolescents and young adults, the fun, team-building and social connections they and their families and caretakers found at Camp Durango on Wednesday are all too rare.

UTSA's Camp Durango brings joy and fun to research


There are many ways to conduct academic research, but not many researchers find projects in the joy of a weeklong summer camp. Camp Durango is a summer day camp for children and youth with autism and for their siblings. The goal of the program is to have campers participate in research while they take part in fun camp activities.

UTSA researcher explores transnational identity through Olympic controversy


 A short-lived yet intense controversy that unfolded over four days on X (Twitter) is the focal point of M. Sidury Christiansen’s most recent research about the need to expand the definition of transnationalism.


Christiansen expands on her research in transnationalism and the use of language in, “’Pochas sin identidad’: Raciolinguistic ideologies in the construction of mexicandad in online spaces,” an article exploring how individuals use language to negotiate their identities, cultures, and membership.

UTSA's PITCH Expanded Providers team would like to invite you to a FREE, virtual training “Psychotropic Medication Use In Pediatric Populations” with guest speaker Brigitte Bailey, MD. Dr. Bailey is a board-certified child psychiatrist and the Program Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship within the Long School of Medicine at UT Health. You will get the opportunity to learn about the importance of psychopharmacology, common medications for pediatric populations, and best practices for collaborating with health care teams and families. 


2 FREE CME/CEU’s will be available for LPCs, LCSWs, and other medical professionals. All are welcome to attend.
