Dear COEHD,
We are excited to announce the award of a partnership between COEHD and SAISD. As part of Senate Bill 1882 which aims to support innovation and success in public schools, we are partnering
to lead three Dual Language Community Lab Schools housed at Bonham Academy, Irving Dual Language Academy and Twain Dual Language Academy.
This partnership is another way COEHD is furthering UTSA’s goal of becoming a model Hispanic thriving university by reaching into our community in a dedicated effort to becoming a great public
research university and a model for student success both within and leading up to college.
The partnership aims to close the gap between educational theory and practice in the classroom and will engage in research to identify best practices that will then be used to inform policy makers, teacher professional preparation
programs and P-12 educators.
I want to thank Dr. Belinda Flores and Dr. David Thompson and Dr. Michael Vriesenga for their hard work and dedication to this very important partnership. Beginning in the next few weeks,
we will be convening faculty who have expressed interest in becoming engaged in this partnership.
