Doctoral student selected for prestigious fellowship
The department of counseling is pleased to congratulate Katherine McVay on being selected for the Counselor Education and Supervision (CE&S)
Editorial Fellowship. CE&S is the official publication of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) which is a division of the American Counseling Association. Editorial fellows, including both doctoral students and new professionals,
assist in reviewing articles for publication in the journal.
Two students in the department of interdisciplinary learning and teaching are hosting a professional development workshop entitled Decolonizing Methodologies Through Art. The
workshop will be held twice: in person on Oct. 16 from 11am-3:30pm at UTSA’s Downtown Campus, and online on Oct. 22 from 1-4pm, and is open to current and pre-service educators from all disciplines.
In a bilingual city like San Antonio, dual language education is key
Secondary dual language programs were launched in 2018 and are designed to serve Spanish-speaking emergent bilingual students struggling in ESL pullout programs at the middle
and high school level. Approximately 1,300 students at the secondary level participate in dual language programs in middle and high school, taking courses such as biology, algebra, history, chemistry, and physics in Spanish.
UTSA hosts writer, speaker and storyteller Gabby Rivera for Hispanic Heritage Month
As part of its Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, UTSA will present author and keynote speaker Gabby
Rivera for an engaging conversation titled “Inspiring Radical Creativity: Empowering Young, Diverse Voices to Tell Their Own Stories.” The virtual event is free and open to the public.
