COEHD undergrads present research at annual showcase

Undergraduate students from across the college presented their research at the annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Showcase, hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research. The research presented this year included a look at the effects of diet and exercise on the cardio metabolic health of female mice, borderland language conflicts, and an examination of a high fat, high sucrose diet on metabolic changes in mice. First cohort of Teacher Residency Program students to graduate this month

Fifteen students from the College of Education and Human Development’s Teacher Residency Model 2.0 will graduate from the university this month as part of the program’s first cohort of yearlong residency teacher candidates.

Ballet Folklorico de UTSA wins big at dance competition

Ballet Folklorico de UTSA, a student organization housed in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, recently received five first place trophies and one second place trophy at the Bailes de Mi Tierra competition in Round Rock, Texas.

AERA deadlines
The deadline for paper and session submissions to AERA 2020 is July 10, 2019. The call for submissions will be released May 10 and the conference will be held in San Francisco April 17-21, 2020. 

The deadline to volunteer to review Division C proposals is May 13, 2019. The quality of the program depends on researchers like you who help identify the most meritorious proposals and the proposals that will be of interest to the Division C audience.

UTSA responds to sexual assault demonstration on campus

Dear Roadrunners, Today a group of our students engaged in a demonstration that involved displaying the names of several UTSA students who have allegedly committed sexual assault. Sexual violence in all its forms is deeply troubling, and we have a zero-tolerance approach to sexual assault at UTSA. We are writing to let you know that we are taking this situation very seriously, and to share our next steps. 
Building Up Mexican American Studies with Lilliana Saldaña and Vanessa Sandoval

In Episode 113, Michael and Dan talk with Dr. Lilliana Saldaña and Vanessa Sandoval about their (and the larger efforts) to create a Mexican American Studies course approved by the Texas State Board of Education. Shortly after completing her studies, Saldaña worked at a dual-language school in San Antonio’s Westside and earned a master’s degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2002. 
Pre-K 4 SA’s future will rest with 2020 election voters

A recent study conducted by the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Urban Education Institute should bolster the case for an extension of the program. The study found that third graders who had participated in Pre-K 4 SA performed better than their peers in math and reading standardized tests. They also had higher attendance rates, which generated an estimated $9.7 million in additional state funding for local schools.

More parking added to Main Campus with addition of new Transportation Building
