Are two languages at a time too much for the mind? Caregivers and teachers should know that infants growing up bilingual have the learning
capacities to make sense of the complexities of two languages just by listening. In a new study, an international team of researchers, including those from Princeton University, report that bilingual infants as young as 20 months of age efficiently and accurately
process two languages.

Texas at San Antonio, and Lilliana Saldaña, Associate Professor in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at the UTSA College of Education and Human Development. In Texas there was a push some years ago to get Mexican American Studies implemented in public schools,
but I believe it was in 2014 that the legislature said that schools can allow Mexican American studies on a voluntary basis. It was more of an elective. So what can you tell us if there was any similar type of pushback in the legislature that happened before
in Arizona?

get update on new relationship restrictions |

More restrictions on improper teacher/student relationships were reviewed this week by David Thompson, a professor in the University of
Texas San Antonio Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Some 3,600 Ector County Independent School District employees attended sessions Tuesday and Thursday. Sessions on Thursday were in the Bonham Middle School auditorium. Thompson has
spoken to ECISD employees for the past four years. Thompson reviewed the many ways teachers could lose their certification. A couple of examples included placing a classified ad for a wife age 17 to 21 in an online Eastern European publication and answering
a message from a “bored” student over the winter holiday, inviting the student over, serving her a vodka and three Crown and Cokes and fondling her.

Marco Cervantes, associate professor in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, was recently named the new director of the Mexican American Studies program. He began his new leadership position this past July.
