Read the Full Story on 2024's Commissioned Work!
We are excited to announce The Gurwitz 2024 commissioned work by San Antonio jazz master, composer and scholar Dr. Aaron Prado: "El Colibrí y la Cempasúchil" ("The Hummingbird and the Marigold").
A virtuoso ensemble of soloists from the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra and three finalists of The Gurwitz 2024 will transport the audiences into a mystical world inspired by Aztec myths and Latin music rhythms, creating an opportunity for these international competitors to showcase their improvisational skills.
We want to extend our gratitude to Pauline and Randolf Glickman for generous underwriting of this commissioned piece.
