COEHD’s inaugural “Staff Excellence” Awards were recently presented to this year’s recipients. This year’s winners were Margarita Gomez (Administrative Services Officer II, BBL) and Marisol Johnson (COEHD IT Operations Manager). Honorable mentions include Nikki McGovern, Teresa Pena, JoAnn Jones, and Molly Miller.

Uchenna Emenaha: Creating connections to advance equity in STEM education

From a young age, Uchenna Emenaha’s family emphasized the importance of getting an education and made her feel comfortable and confident in her ability to pursue higher learning. Emenaha knows that many students do not have this same feeling of self-assurance in the classroom, and this is largely what inspired her to become an educator. She now works to build connections with her own students and create a feeling of belonging in the classroom for everyone, regardless of their background.  

Black and Latino Americans hopeful about student debt forgiveness

President Biden's announcement last Friday that he's considering forgiving a portion of student loans is resonating with many Black and Latino voters who have found themselves struggling with their student loan debt, as the nation continues to recover from the long COVID pandemic and high inflation.

Commencement Drive to celebrate spring and summer 2022 graduates

The sounds of cheering and honking horns will fill the air as the UTSA Commencement Drive kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13. One of the university’s newest traditions, the Commencement Drive debuted in 2020, amidst COVID-19 and social distancing measures including remote operations.
