African American Studies degree will prepare students for a variety of careers

UTSA will offer a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies (AAS) beginning Fall 2022 through its Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies (REGSS). Through the new degree program, UTSA will prepare graduates in the historical, economic, cultural, and sociological factors impacting Black individuals and communities.

COEHD student accepted into California Research Consortium summer program

Monica Hernandez, a master’s student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, has been accepted into the University of California Santa Barbara’s Academic Research Consortium summer program. The consortium targets students from Hispanic Serving Institutions and provides them with mentored research experiences, academic support, and career development opportunities.  

UTSA grad students partner with mission outreach to teach English remotely

 Graduate students enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) 5073 – Technology in Language Teaching and Learning, taught by associate professor Kathryn Henderson, Ph.D., are getting a global view of teaching thanks to a partnership with Manos de Dios, a mission organization located in Danlí, Honduras. 

UTSA doctoral fellow awarded Fulbright Scholarship

Héctor Castrillón-Costa, a doctoral fellow in the Bicultural-Bilingual Studies Department, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship for the 2022 school year. Castrillón-Costa is pursuing his Ph.D. in culture, literacy, and language, and the scholarship will support his dissertation research as he conducts an ethnography of educational language policy in elementary schools on the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia.

UTSA achieves National Research Fund eligibility, joining Texas’ elite research institutions

The University of Texas at San Antonio today announced that it has met the State of Texas’ eligibility criteria to participate in the National Research University Fund (NRUF), a fund created by the Texas Legislature in 2009 with the passage of House Bill 51 to incentivize and support Texas’ emerging research institutions. NRUF-eligibility, also known as Texas Tier One, provides a dedicated source of funding to eligible institutions, helping them to achieve national prominence.
