Enrique Alemán, Jr. named chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies

Dr. Enrique Alemán, Jr. has returned home to Texas as the new chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in the UTSA College of Education and Human Development. His position began at the start of the 2015-2016 school year.


COEHD to host award-winning author and illustrator Yuyi Morales

The UTSA College of Education and Human Development will host award-winning children’s author and illustrator Yuyi Morales at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 in the Buena Vista Building Aula Canaria (1.328) on the UTSA Downtown Campus. The event is free and open to the public.


Hispanic Network Magazine names UTSA a “Best of the Best” university

Imagine if your teacher knew that you learned math best between 8:40 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. Or that after 38 minutes of studying history, you lose focus. Or that you learn science best through a mix of video and text. Knewton, the education technology company, says it has created software to identify such preferences for K-12 subjects, and it made the software available for free to the public Wednesday in an ambitious plan to drive personalized learning to new heights.


Texas Sends Thousands Of Kids To Court And Fines Them For Missing School. That’s About To Change.

For years, Texas prosecuted more kids for missing school than all other states combined. In 2013, prosecutors charged more than 115,000 kids with truancy in adult criminal courts, where the minors were denied access to lawyers, fined thousands of dollars, and saddled with criminal records, despite evidence that such punitive measures didn't incentivize kids to come to school.

School Program Offers Bilingual Education

Childhood obesity affects millions of children around the world. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 18 percent of American children between the ages of six and 11 were considered obese in 2012. In Mexico, 28 percent of boys and 29 percent of girls between the ages of five and 17 were either obese or overweight that same year, based on statistics by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development.
